Qualifying Life Events

If you experience a Qualified Life Event (QLE), you must change your benefit elections within the 30 days following the QLE, otherwise you will need to wait until the next open enrollment period.

Common Examples of a Qualifying Life Event include:

  • Marriage, divorce, or legal separation
  • Birth of a child
  • Death of your spouse, domestic partner, or dependent child
  • Adoption or placement for adoption of your child
  • Change in employment status of employee, spouse/domestic partner, or dependent child
  • Entitlement to Medicare or Medicaid
