Types of paid leave are holidays, vacations, sick leave, administrative/professional leave, and more. Unpaid leave is also available. For detailed information see your bargaining unit's labor contract or the Personnel Manual. It's important to note that if the labor contract conflicts with the Personnel Manual, the labor contract prevails.

Business hours are typically recognized as 8 a.m to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one-hour unpaid lunch each day. Alternate working schedules may be available; see your supervisor.

  • Holidays: the City observes 12 holidays per calendar year, plus one floating holiday, date selected by mutual agreement of employee and supervisor.

  • Vacation leave: accrued at varying rates, based on length of employment.

  • Sick leave: All employees accrue at least one hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked; this includes supplemental employees.

  • Administrative leave/professional leave: available to exempt employees.

  • Short-term and long-term disability: is also available. Please see the Life & Disability section of this website.
For more information regarding Leaves, please refer to the Policy Manual chapter 9.
