Separation Process

Separation Process

Notify your manager by submitting a resignation letter. If you are retiring (starting DRS retirement benefits), please indicate that in your letter. Human Resources will contact you for an exit interview if you are a benefited full-time employee (FTE).

On your last day, return the following items to your manager:

  • Photo ID badge, ORCA card (bus pass), Procard, GETS calling card (emergency phone card), as well as keys and any other city-issued items.
  • Set up a voicemail message and out of office email message notifying contacts that you are no longer with the city and referring them to the appropriate person in your department.
  • City Hall employees: Remember to park in Visitor Parking on your last day as you will not have your badge to exit the City Hall garage.
More information can be found on the city’s intranet page under Departments > Human Resources > Employee/HR Actions > Separation

Use the
Separation Checklist to guide you through the process and ensure all tasks are completed before your last working day.

For a summary of your benefit options when you leave the City of Bellevue, see the
Separating from Service Benefits Overview.

COBRA: Continuing medical, dental & vision

You can extend coverage for yourself and your family in certain circumstances for up to 18 months. If you are retiring, you can use COBRA to help bridge the gap until you reach the qualifying age for Medicare. Under COBRA, you may continue the medical, dental and vision coverage you have at the time you leave the City of Bellevue.
